Close night sighting in British Columbia, and northern Ontario tracks

BFRO Report #4364 (Class A)

Submitted by witness on Thursday, May 23, 2002

Date of Incident:  May, 2001

Season:  Spring

Province: Ontario

Country: Canada

Location Details:  Got better details in my class 1 sightings

All we did during this find was follow the tracks up across the creek, measured the stride (6ft) and made certain it wasn’t a human making the tracks

Nearest Town:  kilarney

Nearest Road:  Can’t remember

Observed:  Found tracks of small Bigfoot along a creek bed next our camp (mulitiple witnesses) in remote heavily forested and seldom traveled area, here in central Ontario Canada. We were a part of a brush cutting crew sent in to thin out the area at the time. I know the bush, I’m a trapper, hunter, guide, forestry worker and a widerness survival instructor. The tracks were not a bears. Besides, it wasn,t the first time encountered these type of tracks in my travels. In fact I had what you call a class a sighting on two occasions and I also know of a hot spot where bigfoot activity is presently taking place. Close to where we found these particular tracks…If you are interested….

The reason it took me this long to report anything…I just got online and found your site

Also Noticed:  No, couldn’t save the tracks or make cast, my boss thought it was more important to get trees cut, then launch a bigfoot hunt

Other Witnesses:  six witnesses. I found the tracks and brought them all down for a look.

Other Stories:  Lots of activity in the area, I know of two places where the bigfoot is seen or heard regularily, almost went on a amature hunt myself…It’s the only animal I couldn’t track down yet, at least in these parts. I know the rules, can’t shoot them with a gun, but I’m damn good with a camera.

Time and Conditions:  found the tracks first thing in the morning…must have walked right by our camp

Environment:  heavily forested, thick, and a few swamps and rivers nearby. Lots of bug, no walked around barefoot in there right mind, especially at that site..If you plan a trip to the site, I will guide you if needed.

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Curt Nelson:

I talked to the witness several times by phone. The “class A” sighting he refers to is of particular interest. Although the witness now lives north of Toronto, the sighting of the animal he told me about happened 22 years ago (1980) in British Columbia. He was 18-years-old at the time and hitchhiking with a girlfriend. They had been in Prince George the morning of the incident and had gotten a ride north. The driver, the witness, and his girlfriend became tired and they decided to pull off the road to sleep a little. He said this was in the vicinity of “Muncho Lake.”

It was nighttime, but the moon was out, and the witness and his girlfriend spread their sleeping bags on an open sand hill and slept. The girlfriend woke up because she smelled something very foul. She woke the witness then and he got up and, carrying a 22 rifle he had along, he walked down toward the bush where he thought the smell was coming from. He saw a very large animal on two legs just inside the tree line and he stood watching as it circled around him two or three times, seemingly to check him out. In doing that the animal occasionally crossed the small openings in the cover, so the man got a good look at it and concluded that the animal was a sasquatch.

The animal came out of the trees then and walked out onto the road, apparently to cross it. The witness, at this point thinking the animal was not dangerous, decided to follow it and came after it onto the road. Upon noticing the man coming along toward it, the animal turned and stood facing the witness, who also stopped, and the man and the creature stood facing one another about 30 feet apart. After a short stare down, the animal grunted three times, moving its jaw in a chewing like manner as it did so. Then it turned and walked quickly off into the trees across the road. The witness did not attempt to follow the animal again. The driver with whom the two had gotten a ride, slept through the incident some 40 yards away from where the witness and his girlfriend slept.

The following is the witness’s description of the creature: It was very tall. When it had circled inside the trees, the man observed the animal’s head come close to a tree branch. The witness could just reach that branch with the tip of the barrel of his 22 rifle (about 3 feet long) by holding the butt of the rifle’s stock in the palm of his hand and pushing it vertically up as high as he could reach. When asked how high in feet he thought that was, the witness said about 9 feet.

The animal walked on its hind legs like a man the entire time he observed it.

It had “long, muscular arms, and the hands reached down to its knees.”

It was covered in dark fur the thickness of a bear’s and it shone in the moonlight. The “hair” was somewhat longer on the animal’s shoulders and forearms than elsewhere on its body. And it had longer hair on its chin, “like a little beard, or a goatee.”

The animal appeared to have no neck. The head seemed to sit directly on its shoulders, which were extremely large and wide. The witness said he thought the shoulders were as wide as he was tall – “five or six feet wide.”

The witness could see the animal’s eyes glinting with the light reflecting from the moon, and said they seemed small and like “animal eyes, dog eyes… not human.” But, overall, the man thought the animal’s face was human-like, and described the head as, “like a gorilla’s,” saying it wasn’t round, but came to kind of a point at the back. The head seemed small, but the witness thought that might have been because the shoulders were so large.

The animal moved very quietly when it circled him in the trees. And when it turned to look at him, the animal turned its whole body, not just its head.

I asked the witness if he could tell me that he was certain that the animal was a bigfoot and that such creatures really are real, and he replied, “I know what I saw, I know it’s real.” (Note that this reply is the same as that given by the witness in Report 4777. Although Report 4777 was published first, the interview for this report was conducted before that of Report 4777.)

The witness lives and works in northern Ontario as a hunting guide and trapper, as well as for the logging company.
