the intrepid trail cam

1st Instalment:

Welcome

Hello and welcome to the first instalment of the “the intrepid trail cam”. As a newcomer to the Ontario Sasquatch Research team, I quickly realized I have much to learn about all there is to be a serious researcher including the use of various methods to obtain and analyze evidence. Whether it’s interview techniques, track casting, audio recording or the recording of visual images, each discipline has its own techniques, tricks and traps.

Slowly but surely I am learning about each of them and observing lessons along the way. If you are like me, learning all this for the first time, perhaps my journey will be of interest to you.

This is the first article of an ongoing series documenting what I have learned deploying trail cams. I’ll begin at the beginning when I pretty much knew nothing. As I progress on the journey I’ll share what I have learned and perhaps both my mistakes and successes will be of value to you. If I try something that works well I hope the lessons I’ve learned will shorten your learning curve. Whenever possible I’ll tell you why I am doing something.

While I’ll describe what gear I select and how it goes while using it, I won’t be doing any equipment reviews. I’ll save that for the experts and I would rather point you to their sites. The same goes for vendors, I’ll share where I go but I won’t be reviewing or comparing stores. Once again there are lots of people who do that too.

This will be a “follow me as I figure this out” series. If anyone has any suggestions, I’ll probably give them a try. If you are in the same situation as I am, just starting out, hopefully there will be something here for you. If you’re an expert shaking your head at what I get up to, by all means please give me a steer as you see fit.

As part of this, I will post an “OSR Trail Cam Resource Guide” with links to the various resources I have used in my journey. As I come across new ones I will update the guide. Once again if anyone has any recommended sites please send them my way. If you find that any of the links stop working, please let me know.

So welcome aboard. I hope this may help in some way with your journey and at the end of the day I hope someone somewhere gets a very nice pic.
